There are almost 2,000 different kinds of geckos. That’s more gecko varieties than most people have socks.

🦎

Geckos can walk up walls and hang upside-down on ceilings like tiny, scaly Spider-Men. Their secret? Millions of microscopic hairs on their toes that basically use molecular magic (van der Waals forces) to stick. No glue required.

🦎

Most geckos don’t have eyelids. Instead of blinking, they just… lick their own eyeballs. Casually. In public. No shame.

🦎

Their eyes are about 350 times more sensitive to light than yours. While you’re stumbling around in the dark, a gecko is out here seeing colours like it’s still golden hour.

🦎

When a predator grabs them, many geckos can drop their tail on purpose. The tail keeps wiggling like it’s still in the fight, while the rest of the gecko peaces out. Absolute chaos strategy.

🦎

They can grow the tail back, but the new one is usually a bit different — like a Temu version that still works.

🦎

Geckos are the talkative ones of the lizard world. They chirp, click, bark, and squeak. The Tokay gecko’s call literally sounds like it’s saying “TO-KAY!” on repeat. Peak confidence.

🦎

The smallest gecko is only about 1.6 cm long. That’s smaller than a paperclip. It could probably hide under a coin and still have room for a snack.

🦎

The biggest ones (New Caledonian giant geckos) can get longer than your forearm and make a low growl that locals nicknamed “the devil in the trees.” Respectfully terrifying.

🦎

Gecko skin is so waterproof that water droplets bounce off it like tiny trampolines. Nature’s own rain jacket — and it never needs washing.

🦎

They replace all their teeth every few months. Imagine if your dentist visits were that frequent… and free.

🦎

If a gecko falls, it can twist its tail like a tiny helicopter rotor and flip itself the right way up in about a tenth of a second. Reflexes of a ninja.

🦎

Scientists have been trying to copy gecko feet for years to make sticky robots, medical tape, and climbing gear. The geckos remain unimpressed.

🦎

The big ones can live for decades. There are New Caledonian giant geckos still laying eggs in their 50s. Absolute legends with zero retirement plans.
